doing a disservice

I have been almost obsessed with Galatians chapter 5 lately. In it, God’s people are challenged with the idea that pursuing God equates with separating from the sinful nature. Verses 16-18 say, “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.”

I can’t help but feel in some way that Paul is simply saying that we can either have the best God has to offer OR we can settle for something else. I often tell the ones who come to my Sunday service that God has the difficult-but-permanent fix and the world offers the easy-but-temporary fix.

Friends. we are doing ourselves a disservice when we serve our sensual appetites instead of following God’s plan.
